Bob Roman

A writer/educator for many years, Bob is a faculty member of Fordham University's Dept. of Cammunication and Media Studies, and the Dept. of Humanities at Henry Hudson Community College. He has written for numerous newspapers and magazines, including the New York Times and Films in Review. For over 20 years he was the Arts/Entertainment critic for the Irish Echo. In 1992 and 1994, he was the Republican candidate for the New York Stab Assembly. A retired New York City Board of Education supervisor, he is a graduate of Iona College (BA) and Niagara University (MA). He resides in Pearl River, NY. He is a contributing editor of The Irish Connections, and profiles His Eminence Edward Cardinal Egan in this issue.

Roger Wong

When it comes to shooting the stars in New York and further afield, it is hard to compare with our photographer Roger Wang. Roger has been in the entertainment industry for many years and his work has graced the pages of Irish Connections Magazine now for several issues. The Manhattan native keeps an ear to the ground when it comes to celebrity appearances in the Big Apple and is constantly on the go at premiers and star studded events.

Ellen Broughal

Though at present she is studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, Ellen Brougal has already had more than her share of academie having already attended Towson University in Baltimore, and St. John's University Queens, New York. A native New Yorker, Ellen has lived in Lynbrook Long Island for the greater port of her life though her family hail from both Limerick and Kildare. When not studying for her many exams Ellen is an accomplished artist and a talented musician playing both the flute and piano.

Joe Kavanagh

Born and raised in Wicklow Town, Joe Kavanagh the Irish Connection's resident reviewer emigrated to Boston after graduating from St Patrick's University, Maynooth in 1993. Upon arriving in New York later the same year, Joe spent the next several years attempting to run away from reality by working as a DJ and sound engineer in and around the tri-state area. Then afer spending a year and a half, traveling and working around the world, Joe decided it was time to become port of'normal' civilization again. Now a contributing writer for several American publications, he still manages to find time to perform the occasional gig in and around New York.

Tony Quinn

Having had second thoughts and rid himself of the sideburns, the Newry man this issue gets the real story of the making of The Quiet Man from Mary Kate herself, screen star Maureen O'Hara. He fondly remembers the late great Jack Shea, a two time gold medallist at the 1932 Winter Olympic Games and celebrates his grandson Jim Jr's and Long Island's Sarah Hughes' recent Olympic gold medals. He alsa talks with fellow Co. Down man, ex pro golfer David Feherty who now commentates on the game for CBS.
